Prutsers - "Volume 1" - (Year Zero Records YEAR016) 2012
They sound rather like the motherless sons of The Residents and an Oompah band. Obscure Inspired Insanity at its most obscure and inspired.
Especially fine are the cover versions of rock and pop standards, which firmly put those upstarts in their place, and then piss on their smoking entrails.
Henk Madrotter explains the Prutsers Raison d`etre....."we used any kind of instrument we could get our hands on, kids toys and sometimes a commodore 64, mostly recorded with a mic to a cassette recorder with the "ping pong" method and later with a 4 track cassette recorder.... we did weird covers and we also did covers as cheesy as possible and lots of our own songs in all kinds of styles depending our mood and who ever was there for recording, but mostly it was me, jan, patrick and robo."
He continues on the tenuous subject of influences!!!!....."most of us came out of the old Rotterdam punk scene and we were heavy influenced by bands like snakefinger, einsturzende neubauten, this heat, throbbing gristle, the whole neue welle you name it. We made music on any instrument we could get our hands on and the cassettes that we made, we never sold them but plenty of people were copying them."

Des Duyvels Doedelsack -"Het Duizelt De Staketsels & Snerpt Door De Kathedralen, Het Ruisen Der Vleesch" (Pidoewa P1/P2/P3 , 1983)
This is the Netherlands answer to Danny and the Dressmakers` 4 and a half hour long rock opera, "200 Cancellations", which was also a three Cassette release; although the Dressmakers were far more serious about their music than these fellows were. Which is probably why Hans commited suicide in 1998.

Des Duyvels Doedelsack - "De Brug Der Zuchten" (Pidoewa Cassettes P7) 1983
Hans 'Boogieman' Boogmans, Anthony Blokdijk and friends, recorded lots of improvised post-punk stylings in and around Den Haag, Holland, between 1982 and 1984.Pretty typical commune dwelling type free rock, framed by a lack of technical ability. Some would call this "Hippie Music", and I can`t disagree;but hippie doesn`t always mean fake peace and love, sexual repression of women, lazy middle class dropouts, soap dodgers,(this list could go on).....etc.
Lots of hippie culture was punk as fuck, and an awful lot of punk was more hippie than hippie (Crass and their legion of washed out black clad clones).
On continental europe, the hippie stuck around, and Punk Rock was generally absorbed into this smelly morass(no matter what the european "punks" tell you) so change never really filtered through in the rock world; although euro-electronics were a different matter entirely. This tape is a prime example of the resulting cross fertilisation; and an intriguing mess it is too.
We love hippies really.

Human Flesh - "A Collection of Ambient Music : Volume 1" _ (Insane Music INS18) 1986
A NEW POST!
The powers that wanna be have tried to remove me from the digital highway, but are realising that you cannot uninvent something once you have invented it; or as some clever chap suggested, restoring a genie back into its bottle.
All posts dating back to the beginning of march have now been re-uploaded to mediafire account B, so continue with downloading all you wish from then onwards.......
Including this.....er...... collection of ambient music from Neffe and collaborators.
The title says it all i suppose,so i won`t, in fact , can`t be bothered to write anything witty about it; not that I do anyway, but there you go.
And don`t fucking worry whingers, this is my last Neffe/ Belgian posting for now.
We move next door to Holland next, home of the much maligned in these pages, Korm Plastics.

Human Flesh - "The Third Human Attempt" (Aeon Records AE003) 1984
More Alain Neffe abstract electronica; this time called Human Flesh. It sounds very similar to Pseudo Code, but without the Mark E. Smith-isms. Lots of echo laden synth doodlings, with occasionnal submerged vocalising, drowning in the large spaces left behind by the sparce instrumental backdrop.
Very minimal,very good indeed.

I Scream - "Tomorrrow is Another Day" - (Grafika Airlines GRA21) 1986
Which is a good thing, because if Music was left to musicians, experimental music would probably not exist, except in a very exclusive high-brow world where Alain Neffe would be eternally exiled from. This is Punk culture in its purest form. The fact that these tracks were recorded between 1973 and 1978 makes this "proto-punk" and could well claim to be heavily influenced by various Krautrockers, probably Cluster more than anything else one believes.

Pseudo Code - "Remains to be heard, Volume 2" - (Isane Music INS15) 1986
The very fact that I am struggling to categorise this fine animal is a testament to some fine experimental music. It should be the aim of all experimental musics to escape definition as much as possible, and I think Pseudo Code have achieved this. Minimal free Industrial Jazz Rap anyone?......or have I "had too much to think"?(Don Van Vliet, 1980)

Pseudo Code - "Remains to be heard Volume 1" (Insane Music INS14) 1984
The vocals sound like they`ve been recorded on the shittest cassette they could find, and the musiky stuff on a top quality multitrack unit; even though they would only have used 2 tracks out of the 24.

Pseudo Code - " Potlatch Music Vol. 1 " - ( Insane Music) 1980
Was there ever a genre called Minimal Wave Dark Industrial Rap?......;If not, then this is it. The "rapper" sounds like a hybrid of Mark E. Smith and Genesis P. Orridge, or anybody else with a middle initial in their stage persona.
It scores a healthy 6 on the Industrial cliché scale for the image of Auschwitz on the front, but this is rap music for miserable young men with long black overcoats and longer black fringes. A genre defining tape if ever there was one!
Having said that the whole of side B is probably in the Ambient Dark Industrial Rap sphere of influence; consisting entirely of a field recording of the "outside" world (by Alain Neffe), a sound of silence type experiment of the ambient noise of a city.A lost opportunity to have P Diddy lay some of his deep poetry on whitey!?....Maybe next time eh?

Bene Gesserit - " Best Of " - ( Insane Music ) 1981
Alain Neffe`s Bene Gesserit`s debut release on his Insane Music label.
A twisted form of experimental synth pop is what we have here. The highlight for me being the first track on side B ("Kidnapping"), which sort of invents euro-rap,and its at least a year before Grandmaster Flash hit the european airwaves.
As much as I detest all Rap from the last 25 years, in its early incarnations it did have a DIY charm that was quite infectious. I`ve always loved the White Rap of Mark E. Smith and John Cooper Clarke; and I like the white Rap moments of Bene Gesserit!
Apparently the black kids in the ghetto were witnessed breakdancing to Gary Numan tracks in 1980, they should have been doing the same to Bene Gesserit. If only one of the 50 plus copies of this made it to the Bronx in 1981, the kids could be dancing to a different, more bizarre, tune.(although Gary Numan rules, lets not forget that!)

Cortex - " Souvenir / Souvenirs " - ( Grafika Airlines GRA 20) 1984
Another classic from superb Belgian label Grafika Airlines.
Basically it`s Alain Neffe, of Bene Gesserit and the Insane Music cassette label fame, with various sultry voiced female francophones, recorded from an astonishingly early 1975 to 1982.
Minimal is the word, and reminds one of the two Kluster albums from 1970/71.
A stark one tone electronic backing, fronted by part narrated/ part sung, dialogue provided by the various girlies listed on the inlay card above.
Those Belgians sure know the meaning of the mantra: "Its not what you put in , its what you leave out".
And Cortex certainly left out a lot on this proto-Minimalist relic of a future that never happened.

Het Magisch Theater - " Magthea and Insanity " (Self-release) 1983
Any art that has the uber realist philosophy, as printed on the insert of this cassette, and I quote:
"The only meaning of life is Emptiness. The Horrible, beautiful Emptiness. There is no evil, no good; there is only the blind power of: to be or not to be, to will or not to will, to do or not to do. Nothing is arranged. It is chaos where-out the uncontrolled insanity grows...".
......has to be good!
But, this is great!
I assume this was intended as an accompanying electronic soundtrack for some dodgy fringe theatre production in Antwerp, Belgium, back in 1983. A year when it seemed that everyone in that fine land had a synthesiser,and/or a minimal electronic project going on.
This C-60 is a forgotten classic of the era, full of throbbing oscillators, tin pot drum machines, and monophonic synths-a-plenty.
And remember, the only meaning of life is Emptiness, but the kind of emptiness found on this cassette gives life meaning.A horrible, beautiful meaning.

Side A : Untitled (30:58)
Side B : Untitled (31:10)
